The promos are part of the company’s efforts at focusing on people while serving as major brand awareness campaign for the leading Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) operator. Nigeria Communications Week gathered that MultiLinks Telkom embarked on three promos which include Win-a-Million promo, Scratch and Win and Free Weekend Call. Free Weekend Call is the first of its kind in Nigeria where subscribers receive money for receiving calls on their phones. All the promos aim to add value rather than discount while promoting other businesses where possible Nigeria Communications Week further gathered that rationale behind promos is to allow MultiLinks to give back to the customers who have supported the firm to become the telecommunications provider of choice in the country. With a little over 2 million subscribers, the company now operates in several Nigerian cities on CDMA platform, a cellular technology that competes with the standard GSM mobile technology. Multi-Links Telkom became a runaway success after Telkom South Africa bought 75 per cent share in the Nigerian private telecommunications firm for $280 million.
