National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (Natcoms) has berated Association of licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (Alton) on its threat to hike call tariff in some states of the country classified as unfriendly for operation.
Mr. Deolu Ogunbanjo, president, Natcoms said that the threat is not only vexatious, and condemnable, but callous and totally out-of-order in a country that believes in the rule-of-law.
He urged Alton to seek redress in court for multiple taxes by the various tiers of Government and other Government Agencies. Once judgment is delivered in Alton’s favour, and such an arm of Government is duly served, the judgment execution and compliance will not be a problem, now that the whole nation is singing ‘Rule of Law’.
He decried Alton approach that once any challenge is being faced by member operating companies, they can always pounce on the Subscribers/Consumers for tariff/charges increase, because they are weak and will take anything the operators so wish and desire. He expressed Natcoms resolve to challenge and resist any and every move by Alton to increase tariffs/charges.
Alton according to him is currently being used to create Oligopoly in the telecommunications industry which contradicts the Law of health competition. “Alton is also being used only to consider tariffs/charges increase on subscribers,” he said.
