Senator Ike Ekweremadu, deputy Senate President, has pledged the National Assembly commitment to assist Nigeria Communications Satellite (NigComSat) Ltd to appropriate adequate funds for NigComSat 2 and 3.
Senator Ekweremadu stated this when he paid a private visit to NigComSat ground station complex at Obasanjo Space Center along airport road, Abuja.
“The National Assembly will do everything to assist in the actualization of NigComSat 2 and 3 because it will not only help the country to become a contemporary of other nations but it is also commercially viable and it will help us to be counted when technology issues are discussed”, said the deputy senate president.
He however, urged the management of NigComSat Ltd to bring stakeholders especially State Governors, Ministers, Captains of industries, to appreciate the technological drive Nigeria has.
Earlier on, Engr. T. Ahmed-Rufai, managing director of the company, said that NigComSat trained engineers now perform well as their counter- parts in the space industry in other parts of the world.
Engr. Rufai explained that the ground station antennas that were initially installed by the Chinese are now being installed by the Nigerian engineers as a demonstration of technology know-how acquisition.
He called on the National Assembly to assist as they had done before for the country to benefits from the satellite technology and its spin-off.
