NCC Calls for Data of Sim Registration

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed telecommunications operators to submit summary of customers’ registered and unregistered, active and deactivated lines as at Friday, July 5, or face sanctions.

This is despite repeated appeals by subscribers’ bodies for the extension of the June 30 deadline for registration of Sim cards which begun more than two years ago.

U.A.S. Maska, director, Compliance Monitoring & Enforcement, NCC, in a directive also warned that these information/data should reach the Commission on or before the close of business on Friday, July 5, after which failure may attract maximum penalty.

The letter read “pursuant to NCC (Registration of Telephone Subscribers) Regulations 2011, and our subsequent direction of April, 15, extending the deadline for the full deactivation of all unregistered Sim cards to June 30; we wish to draw your attention to the expiration of the deadline.”

It therefore directed “that the operators should forward to the Commission, a summary of the registered and active lines on your network as at June 30; details of the unregistered and deactivated lines as at June 30, and consistent with section 15(2) of the NCC’s Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations 2011.

“That, operators deactivate all unregistered Sim cards on its network immediately. Deactivation in this case, and consistent with section 1 of the NCC’s Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulation 2011 means that all unregistered Sim cards are disallowed full access to your network including the ability to make and receive calls, to send and receive SMS and other range of services usually provided on your network.

“That operators provide firm confirmation that these lines have been fully deactivated in line with the provisions of this regulation.”
