NCC Commissions ADAPTI, DAP Projects in Owerri

Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commissioned its Advanced Digital Awareness Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI) and Digital Access Programme (DAP) projects in several institutions of higher learning and secondary technical school in Imo State.

Dr. Eugene Juwah, executive vice chairman of the NCC was the chief host while Senator Hope Uzodinma and Raphael Igbokwe, member of the House of Representatives were special guests of honor at the ceremonies which took place in their various constituencies.

ADAPTI is one of the programmes through which the Commission introduced to bridge the digital divide existing in the academia with the provision of computers and other ICT facilities to equip the lecturers and other experts in order to improve their ICT skills and also to enrich the students.

The NCC through ADAPTI provides computers and other state-of-the-art e-learning suites for the academics in tertiary institutions across the country.

So far, more than 297 institutions of higher learning have benefitted from the programme since its introduction in 2008 and this is in addition to the introduction of the wireless cloud, a complimentary package comprising of laptops with wireless internet facilities.

Another 144 institutions, including some who already have ADAPTI, have benefitted from the wireless cloud.

DAP is another one of the programmes through which the NCC introduced to bridge the digital divide existing in our secondary schools through classrooms fully equipped with computers and other ICT facilities, including a generator and internet connection to enable the schools and its immediate environment to have access to the internet.

Many of these secondary schools around the country have testified how this programme has facilitated their online examination activities such as subscription to JAMB, WAEC, NECO among other examinations.

DAP is designed to assist students adapt to ICT and the internet at an early age as well as for the surrounding communities to have access to the internet and computers especially when the students are not available to ensure maximum use of the bandwidth subscription for the affected schools.

So far, more than 217 schools around the country have benefitted from DAP and it is the goal of the NCC to take this programme to as many schools in Nigeria.
