NCC Holds Stakeholders’ Forum on Spectrum Auction

Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has declared plans to hold public forum in lieu of intentions to auction spectrum in 2.6 Gigahertz (GHz) band.

Tony Ojobo, director, Public Affairs at NCC in a statement, said that, the Stakeholders’ Forum will discuss, among other things, modalities for the auction.

The statement reads: “The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, in line with its usual practice of consulting widely with the industry, hereby announces intention to auction 2 X 70 MHz Spectrum slots in the 2.6 GHz Spectrum Band.

“The auction is part of the efforts by the Commission to deepen competition and improve Broadband Penetration in the Country towards achieving the goals of the National Broadband Plan”.

Ojobo said that, the Commission, therefore invites Stakeholders and relevant industry groups to a Stakeholders Forum scheduled as for tomorrow at Oriental Hotel, Lagos at 10am. 

Key issues to be discussed include Lessons from the last auction in 2.3GHz Band; Spectrum Packaging including the use of Spectrum Caps; Participation Restrictions and Licensing Option: Wholesale, Retail or Combined.

Others are Eligibility Criteria; Interference Mitigation Techniques; Spectrum License Tenures; Roll Out Obligation and This Notice serves as Invitation to all Stakeholders.
