NCC Impounds N6m Broadcast Gadgets in Benin-City, Arrests 6

Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has raided six outlets suspected to be illegally re-transmitting copyright protected TV broadcast signals in Benin-City, Edo state and contrivances estimated at N6 million were confiscated.

The raided outlets are located in Uwa Street, off Ice Road; Oro Street, off TV Road; Ovenseri Street, off Oguola Street; Iken Street, off Textile Mill Road; Ogbewe Street, off Siluko Road and Akugbe Street, off Siluko Road, areas in Benin-City, Edo State.
Mr. Augustine Amodu, acting director, Enforcement who revealed this in Abuja said six suspected pirates were arrested.

He gave the names of the suspects as Mr. Nwankwo Ikenna, Mr. Godwin Kadiri, Mr. Friday Idemudia, Mr. Ogumwonyi Dave, Mr. Ogumwonyi Sylvester and Mr. Osawe Osayi.

He said Copyright inspectors backed by armed policemen impounded several Units of Broadcast equipments including decoders, splitters, and cable wires during the anti-broadcast piracy raid.

Amodu, explained that the Commission has since commenced prosecution procedures and that the suspects and their accomplices will soon be arraigned before the Court of Law.

While urging stakeholders and the general public to support the Commission in the fight against Copyright theft, the acting director, assured that the Commission is committed to the zero tolerance policy against piracy.
