Tony Ojobo, director, Public Affairs, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has said that plans were underway for the implementation of the National Broadband Policy.

Broadband is a term normally considered to be synonymous with a high-speed connection to the internet, suitability for certain applications, or technically a certain quality of services.

Ojobo told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja  that the commission would, as part of such plans, open an auction to unveil a 2.3GHZ.

He said this would take place between February 17 and 20, while another one would hold in June.

Ojobo said this would provide lasting solutions to internet network problems in the country and enable telecommunication service providers to take services directly to individuals and organisations.

He said the Federal Government would provide the avenue and infrastructure to enable individuals have direct access to internet and telecommunication services at the lowest rate.

“Last year, the commission announced its intention to license infrastructure for the service providers and unveil the open access module.

“NCC is now looking at that policy and taking measures to ensure that government’s objectives or intention are met, with regards to ensuring the position of broadband to Nigerians.

“What that has done is that it has provided us with a platform on which we can now implement that policy,” Ojobo said.
