Nigerian Communications Commission, (NCC) has asked MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd, to explain why the Commission will not visit it with appropriate sanctions for the unbearable poor quality of services in Lagos and its environs.
In a letter, NCC directed MTN to, within 24 hours; furnish the Commission with detailed report on these developments and efforts being made to urgently address the problem.
Dr. Balarabe Sani, and Ms. Josephine Amuwa, director of Technical Standards & Network Integrity and director of Legal Services respectively of NCC in letter to MTN said “It has also been brought to our notice that the MTN Switch in Lagos is down and MTN has neither informed its subscribers, nor communicated this unfortunate development to the Commission as required”
“Please note that failure to respond as directed might result in the Commission invoking its powers to sanction MTN appropriately”, it said.
MTN like other network service providers in the country are contending with multiple taxation, multiple regulation, deteriorating power supply, extraneous regulatory issues by other agencies of government and a host of other issues.
