Mr. Maxwell Oko, Managing Director of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Enterprises has urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government to emulate the Nigerian Communications Commission, in being more socially responsible.
Mr.Oko stated this recently when he led a team of seven persons to NCC Head Office on a courtesy call and to request NCC's partnership in the planned launch of NIGERIA SPORTS BOOK OF RECORDS, 1884 - 2016, a major and historical nook of reference on sports in Nigeria.
The delegation which included Yakubu Mohammed Argungu, Clerk of the Senate Committee on Sports and Youth Development who represented the Committee chairman, Senator Obinna Ogba, said it is seeking NCC collaboration in the launch of the historical book because of the Commission's unparallel demonstration of commitment to corporate social responsibility principles which he noted found clear expressions in many areas including sports even though the focus of NCC's mandate is telecommunications development.
Oko said proceeds from the launch of the Book will be used to support Nigerian sports men and women.
Responding, Mr. Sonny Aragba-Akpore, Head Media Management who received the delegation on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta, recalled that Commission continues to identify with sports development because of the obvious benefits.
Aragba-Akpore said besides tennis sponsorship, all staff of the Commission undertakes a keep fit walk every quarter as a matter of organizational policy and at the moment some staff of the Commission are in Bauchi participating in the annual sporting event of the Federal Ministry of Communications.
He therefore promised to convey the request of the delegation to the EVC for consideration.
