NCS Confers Honorary Fellowship on Jim Ovia

Mr. Jim Ovia, founder and former group managing director, Zenith Bank Plc, has been conferred with the Honorary Fellowship of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) in recognition of his important and immense contributions in the Information Technology field over many years.

The conferment ceremony was conducted by Demola Aladekomo, NCS president and Alhaji Ladi Ogunneye, provost, College of Fellows, at the weekend.

Ovia founded Zenith Bank PLC in 1990, and during his time as group managing director and chief executive officer of the bank introduced a great deal of technology driven innovations into the Nigerian banking industry.

He is not only an avid ICT promoter, but has also invested extensively in Nigeria’s technology sector, emerging as the first president of the Nigeria Internet Group (NIG).

He is promoter and founder of Visafone Communications Limited, with far reaching commitment to the sector as evidenced by his leadership of several national IT related initiatives including the Nigerian Software Development Initiative (NSDI), the National Information Technology Advisory Council (NITAC) and the National Broadband committee.

The conferment ceremony attracted a top quality attendance comprising leading IT personalities which included Ogunneye; Srinivasa Venkatappa, Managing Director / CEO, Visafone Communications Limited; Dr. Obi Okonkwo, deputy provost; and Dr. Vincent Asor, NCS College of Fellows Chairman.
