The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has lined up astute IT professionals and other notable personalities as guest speakers at its 26th National Conference holding in Abuje later this month.

Speaking at the Society’s national secretariat in Lagos, Prof Adesola Aderounmu, president, Nigeria Computer Society, disclosed that Professor Mike Hinchey, president-elect, International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) delivering Keynote on:  “Enhancing National Security using Software Systems”; Engr. Aliyu A. Aziz – DG, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) - Topic: “Identity Management and National Database: Challenges, Opportunities and Future Directions”.

Air Vice Marshal T. V. Udoh – Chief of Defense Space Agency, Topic: “Information Technology and National Security: Counterterrorism Perspective”, while Professor Umaru Garba Danbatta – EVC/CEO, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) - Topic: “Universal Broadband Access - the National Safety and Security Imperative”.

Also, Mrs. Bukola Ogunleye –  Enterprise Architect and Technology Advisor, Oracle Nigeria - Topic: “The Role of Information Technology in Financial Investigations and Systems: Corporate Fraud and Corruption”; T. George-Maria Tyendezwa – Assistant Director/Head, Computer Crime Prosecution Unit, Federal Ministry of Justice - Topic: “Cybercrime Investigations and Prosecution: Bridging the Gaps”; Tosin Aina – IS Manager, Information Security Office, Wema Bank Plc - Topic: “Challenges, SMAC and Changing Role of Information Security Management”.

Meanwhile, Social Media Masterclass on “National Security and Cyber Intelligence – Social Engineering Dimensions” will be handled by the Deloitte Nigeria Cybersecurity Team led by Tope Aladenusi, Cybersecuirty specialist and Partner at Deloitte Nigeria.

NCS’ YIEP
The NCS President also disclosed that a new and most exciting feature and highlight at this year’s conference is the Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Platform (YIEP) which has been endorsed by the global IFIP International Young ICT Group.

“NCS is committed to shaping the future of IT in Nigeria and has introduced YIEP to harness the ideas, energies, freshness and strengths of the youth as a dynamic, innovative and future oriented approach to enhance security, job creation, health, education and overall prosperity.

Advancing National Safety and Security: Innovation, Inclusion and Networking

Prof. Aderonumu also emphasised that the conference theme was based on national security as one of the most critical issues in Nigeria today.

“In the 21st century”, he said, “Nations invest in Information Technology as the key enabler for National Security. NCS has always advocated that the usage of IT in Security needs to be improved through more widespread adoption of IT professionalism in the private and public sectors.

“NCS and its members can play a major role in improving the state of security nationwide, combating terrorism, enhancing public service delivery and accountability and boosting job creation”.

He expressed confidence that the 26th National Conference will provide a multi-stakeholder forum to examine pertinent considerations in achieving IT enabled Security to advance and achieve Sustainable Development. Engagement opportunities will be explored during the Conference to present and develop effective strategies, creative approaches and practical solutions.

The conference comprises plenary, parallel and technical sessions, networking meetings, panel discussions and special focus forums.

Specifically, highlights include: Official Opening and Keynotes, Plenary and Parallel Sessions, Technical Sessions, Seminars, Research Consortium, Induction of New Members, Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Platform, Exhibition and Products Launch, Public Sector ICT Showcase, Social Media Masterclass, NITDA session, Cyber Defence Competition, National IT Competitions, Fellows’ Forum and Annual General Meeting.

He scored the NCS annual conference high as it has emerged the powerful voice advocating for government intervention, legislation, environmental and societal change that affects the IT sector and IT enabled activities.

He said that in setting the Digital Agenda for the nation, actionable initiatives will be developed during the conference to advance the IT profession and industry and build an inclusive and SECURE Digital Nigeria.
