NCS Picks Enugu, Venue for National Conference 2014

Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has scheduled Enugu for its flagship annual conference. The conference with the theme: “Building a Knowledge-Based Economy in Nigeria:  The Role of IT,” will hold in the State from July 23rd to 25th, 2014.

Professor David Adewumi, NCS’ president, dropped the hint while addressing IT journalists in Lagos, and identified the conference as, “indisputably the premier and most influential yearly event for IT Industry and Profession in Nigeria”.

Annually, the conference addresses critical national and global IT issues and concerns, attracting practitioners, decision makers, policy makers and professionals from Nigeria and all over the World.

The Conference is the largest annual assembly of high-level IT stakeholders from business, industry, education, government and social communities in Nigeria.

Adewumi, said that it is the key networking and professional event for advancing Information Technology for development and promoting the interests of IT stakeholders in the country.

“The theme of this year’s conference is – Building a Knowledge-Based Economy in Nigeria:  The Role of IT. This year venue is Enugu State, From July 23rd to 25th, 2014. Modern economies are increasingly based on knowledge and information as the drivers of productivity and growth – the “knowledge-based economy”.

“The Conference will bring together scholars, business persons, IT practitioners, government policymakers, and the general public. NCS conferences always set standards and provide direction for IT development in Nigeria. In recent years it provided answers and solutions in Cashless, e-government and National Security,” he said.

Speaking on the information technology research and development workshop proposed by the Body, he said, “As part of NCS Corporate responsibility, we embark on purposeful and rigorous IT research efforts towards nation building. The workshop offers practical, innovative, useful strategies for people wanting to improve their personal and professional lives through effective research methods.

 “Developed for stakeholders in Academics, Industry and Government, the R&D workshop will also build collaborative, purposeful and rigorous research efforts and capacities in Information Technology towards national development. It will be held from March 4th – 6th, 2014 at the Information Technology & Communication Unit (INTECU), Obafemi  Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State”.

He further declared 2014 to NCS is a year of Innovative Vision and Opportunities. “Under my leadership NCS will therefore work with stakeholders to support and actualize innovation efforts, build capacities and help realize our country’s huge potential through Information Technology,” he said.

Some projects we are embarking on this year towards the development of our nation and industry include NCS National Secretariat Building; NCS Scholarship and Sponsorship Fund for undergraduates, postgraduates and research fellows; Information Technology Jobs and Career Fair; NCS industrial IT Park and National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA).
