NCS Receives Car Donation from Computer Warehouse Group

Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has expressed happiness over a brand new Elantra Hyundai saloon car it received from the Computer Warehouse Group (CWG) Plc, at the weekend.

The presentation was made by Austin Okere, group chief executive officer of CWG to Professor David Adewumi, president of NCS, during the courtesy visit paid to the leading pan African ICT conglomerate last Friday.

Commending the society for its commitment to advocacy for accelerating ICT development in Nigeria, Okere stressed the need for the IT community to support NCS. In his view, ensuring NCS takes its rightful place in society is in the interest of the IT community in particular and the nation as a whole.

Responding Professor Adewumi thanked Okere and CWG for donating the vehicle to facilitate the activities of the Society, stating that such generosity is both uncommon and encouraging.

Completely surprised and delighted, NCS President noted that the donation took the NCS delegation completely by surprise as the visit was organized mainly to appreciate and commend CWG for the numerous achievements it has recorded in the IT Industry.

He was particular impressed that Okere was nominated for the 2013 IT Personality of Year Award for his outstanding contributions in the field of IT in Nigeria. He presented the award to Okere after his presentation.

NCS used the visit to identify with CWG’s adoption of innovative, technology driven solutions in building Nigeria and Africa’s digital economy. Professor Adewumi however observed that despite the tremendous impact of CWG and other forward looking IT stakeholders, “the need to accelerate the pace of ICT development and ensure long term sustainability for the sector is both massive and glaring”.

He further stated that “partnering strategically, NCS-CWG can identify and support innovation efforts, build capacities and help realize the huge potential in the fledging African market”.

NCS President called for NCS-CWG Strategic partnerships through the NCS 25th National Conference taking place in Enugu State- July 23rd to 25th, 2014, tagged ‘“Building a Knowledge-Based Economy in Nigeria: The Role of Information Technology”; the NCS National Secretariat Building; the National Information Technology Research and Development Workshops- 4th to 6th March, 2014 at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State and the NCS Scholarship fund for undergraduates, postgraduates and research fellows

Adewumi stated that the warm reception accorded NCS and the donation of the car shows the total commitment of CWG to the cause of the society.
