NCS to Confer Honorary Fellowship on Mcintosh, VP ECOWAS

Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) will confer Honorary Fellowship on Dr. Toga Gayewea Mcintosh, vice president, Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) during the upcoming National conference, the largest annual gathering of IT professionals and stakeholders in Nigeria.

#NCSEnugu2014 conference holds from July 23 to 25, 2014 at the Nike Lake Resort, Enugu State.

Focusing on Information Technology to drive development through game changing innovation and collaboration, the conference theme is: “Building a Knowledge-Based Economy in Nigeria: The Role of Information Technology”.

The Publicity, Events and Trade Services Committee (NCS), in a statement made available to Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, said Dr. Toga Mcintosh, has contributed significantly to advancing technology development in the West African sub region.

In moving from “an ECOWAS of States to an ECOWAS of the People”, his impact is particularly important and immense in his supervision of the ECOWAS Community Computer Centre (CCC) to ensure it serves as a catalyst in all sectors of integration.

Under his supervision, the CCC has helped achieve:- Building the capacity of Member States and ECOWAS Institutions for effective technology utilization; – Improved Internet access of National Units and community Institutions to Internet; – Strengthening of Information Systems on the trade and markets opportunities available at national and regional levels

The Committee headed by Mr. Jide Awe said that NCS in addition appreciates his efforts in building ECOWAS partnerships with tech stakeholders as well as his support of initiatives in Nigeria’s IT space.

“In line with the #NCSEnugu2014 conference theme, he has ensured ECOWAS collaboration in NCS events and activities geared towards the development of a globally competitive and prosperous Nigeria. Such efforts are particularly exceptional and worthy of both commendation and emulation.

“A hallmark of NCS is high profile acknowledgment and celebration of achievers and visionaries driving significant change in society through technology. The aim is to inspire and promote innovative practices and accomplishments in our environment.

“Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Toga Gayewea Mcintosh will be accorded such honour during #NCSEnugu2014.

NCS Honorary Fellowship is rich and fitting recognition of his continuing and outstanding contribution to Information Technology development in Nigeria and the West Africa region.
