National Information technology Merit Awards (NITMA), constituted by the Nigeria computer Society (NCS) in 2009 is here again to honour IT/ICT industry achievers.
Professor Adesola Aderounmu, president of NCS, at a press conference in Lagos to announce NITMA 2015, said that the annual event is intended to honour and reward excellence and outstanding contributions in the Nigeria’s Information Technology Industry.
He said NCS has perfected arrangements to honour those who have made giant stride and significant impact in expanding the frontiers of Information Technology in Nigeria.
Aderounmu said, “It is a night of awards to celebrate the best of Nigerian Information Technology creativity and innovation that has fundamentally changed, and is still changing the Nigerian nation. Award winners are recognised for being inspiring symbols of the IT community. The Nigerian nation has moved forward because of their contributions. It is honour well deserved. Nigeria, not just the IT community, owes them a huge debt of gratitude.
“NITMA event reinforces the unique values NCS promotes by combining this prestigious long-standing awards ceremony with unparalleled networking opportunities in a highly celebratory environment that will include IT professionals, innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs, as well as policy and decision makers in the private and public sectors of the economy. It is a credible event that is forward looking and important in promoting the long term sustainability of the IT sector and developing Nigeria’s knowledge society.
“This is a responsibility that defines the essence of Nigeria Computer Society. This year NITMA, an annual award ceremony is taking place at Mosun Centre Onikan Lagos on Thursday November 26, 2015”.
He added that the Awards are categorised and based on IT specialisation, NCS standards and global best practices.
Among the categories of awards is the distinguished IT Personality of the Year Award. Expectedly this is already generating immense interest within IT community as the most prestigious IT award.
Also attracting serious attention is Professional fellowships that will be conferred on deserving practitioners. Other category of award is the Special Recognition Awards that will be given to individuals and organizations who have been most consistent over time in moving the IT industry and profession forward.
Outstanding individuals in the society will be honoured with Honorary Fellowship awards..
IT Personality Of The Year Nominees
The IT Personality of the Year award which is the NCS President’s award acknowledges and celebrates the year’s most outstanding IT contributors over the year.
The achievements of this year’s IT Personality of the Year nominees are impressive and transformatory.
The achievements send out a powerful and undeniable message that top achievers in the IT industry are the positive change agents moving Nigeria forward. The nominees are: MS Funke Opeke, CEO of MainOne Cables; Mrs Florence Seriki CEO of Omateck; Mr Etim Amana CEO of MIS and Tosin Ilesanmi Regional Director RLG. As usual the winner will be unveiled at the NITMA event.
Fellowships Award – Honorary
“During the ceremony, deserving individuals who have distinguished themselves with exceptional achievement and service that have accelerated IT development in Nigeria will be honoured with Honorary Fellowships: Prof. Vincent Ado Tenebe Vice Chancellor National Open University Nigeria, for his continuing and outstanding contribution to Information Technology development in Nigeria and Mr Yusuf Kazaure MD/CEO of Galaxy Backbone Limited for his innovative technological ideas and broadband access.

“IT professionals who have excelled and have achieved significantly through their work in IT will be honoured with Professional Fellow grade of the NCS. Professional fellowship conferment is the highest recognition of professional excellence anyone can receive in IT practice in Nigeria. Being the highest grade of the NCS professional cadre, Professional Fellowship awards are for IT role models who have made significant impact to the growth of information technology in Nigeria. First amongst these people is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, our own Engr. Babachir David Lawal.
Special Recognition awards: The beneficiaries of the honour are
Sir Demola Aladekomo Founder Chams PLC; Dr. Chris Nwannenna CEO Condata Systems; Mrs Ibukun Odusote, Permanent Secretary Political affairs Office of SGF and Mr. Babatunde Fowler Executive Chairman FIRS.
Aderounmu expressed optimism that the high profile award night will promote excellence, high performance and innovation within the Nigerian IT community to encourage more of such performance from practitioners, organisations and stakeholders.
