Communication Week Media Limited, publishers of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, has announced Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, father of modern Nigeria telecom and former executive vice-chairman and chief executive officer of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) as the special guest of honour of this year’s Beacon of ICT Awards ceremony.
Dr. Ndukwe, the midwife and doctor of modern day telecommunications in Nigeria brings added weight to the annual industry wide celebration that recognizes deserving talents, contributions and commitments to the growth of the ICT industry.
The event which holds on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos, according to a statement signed by Ken Nwogbo, editor-in-chief, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek has the theme “Technology Adaption; Looking IT Straight In the Eye".
Nwogbo, chief executive officer, Communication Week Media said that “this is because information and Communication Technology (ICT) innovations are delivering home-grown solutions in Africa, transforming businesses, and driving entrepreneurship and economic growth”
He said that the Beacon of ICT Distinguished Lecture is designed to explore efforts to put Nigeria on the global information and communications technologies map.
The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Chris Nwagboso, Chairman, Knowledge Factory International, United Kingdom.
Nwagboso, is one of the best brains in integrated Transport and Automotive Systems in world; with works in Innovation and Enterprise.
Along with the theme of this year’s event, Nwagboso, will examine efforts to adapt ICTs to local conditions and uses in Nigeria, and allowing Nigeria understand those innovations and adjust them to her own development needs.
His areas of interest also include; Transportation and Civil Engineering; Intelligent Systems for Mobility; Logistics and Supply Chain Management; and Performance Management Systems For Industry and Public sector
Nwogbo said that Ndukwe and Nwagboso are pride to African’s Information and Communications Technology.
The highlight of the evening will be awards on some individuals and organizations for outstanding contributions and best practices.
Beacon of ICT Distinguished Lecture/Awards Series now in its fourth year is the biggest industry event complete with trappings of any five star red carpet events.
At the inaugural edition, Ndukwe, then executive vice chairman, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) delivered the lecture and gazing into the crystal ball, foretold a broadband revolution.
The following year, it was the turn of Engr. Yomi Bolarinwa, Director-General of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) who x-rayed the digitization of broadcasting.
Last year, Dr. Jean Luc Fort, CEO at OR System France and a specialist in Counterparty Risk wowed the crowd with expectations from mobile money.
There has never been a dull moment with the event which draws top politicians and government functionaries as well captains in the ICT industry as well financial institutions.
