KIEK Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has trained youths of Kabusa community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to give the children opportunity to have fulfilled lives.
Speaking during the presentation of certificates to the youths during the Grand Finale/Award Ceremony in Abuja, Barr Ebele Iyiegbu, executive director/founder of KIEK Foundation, said her aim is to change the lives of children living in the rural areas through ICT.
She said, “We have come to realise that to thrive in a hyper competitive economy and promote inclusive education, it has become vital to equip the youths in a rural area with the knowledge of ICT.
“We found it fit to create this avenue to educate the less privileged children during their long holiday, on computer MS Excel, Use of Internet, Power Point Packages, MS Access, Coding/Website Design, MS Word, Graphics Design and others.
“We are in Kabusa community because it’s one of the rural areas in FCT that need ICT knowledge and as we are changing the life of the less privileged, Kabusa happens to be one of the areas we have targeted to benefit from our skills training,” she said.
She said that she is elated “not only because we have planted a seed in these young ones which will over time open them up to limitless opportunities which lies ahead of them.”
In appreciation, Hajia Silifat Ahmed, principal of Government Secondary School Kabusa, commended the founder of the NGO and teachers who taught the youths throughout the period.
She said, “The foundation training came at the right time when the children need the knowledge of ICT to expose them to the data world.
“Universal Basic Education (UBE) are coming to give us computer laboratory and this programme came timely to give them an insight of computer because the children were not exposed to computer, but with this programme they have been exposed to computer and by the time government provides the computer laboratory, the student will take it from there”.
One of the beneficiaries, Godswill Ebube expressed appreciation to KIEK Foundation for the knowledge imparted on the children.
