Nigeria Computer Society Announces Nitex

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the umbrella body of all Information Technology (IT) professionals in Nigeria has announced the first Nigeria Information Technology Exhibition – Nitex 2008.
The exhibition, according to Prof. Charles Uwadia, president of NCS, in a press conference last week; is billed to hold between Thursday 20th and Saturday 22nd November, 2008 at “The Event Centre,” Ikeja, Lagos; and is hosted in partnership with National Information Technology Development Agency (Nitda) and Small and Medium Scale Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (Smedan).
Nitex 2008, he said, is set to showcase latest tends, strategies and technologies that can be used to enhance national development as well as afford professionals the opportunity to interact, network and be abreast of latest technology in the industry.
“Given the crucial role IT is playing and will continue to play in socio-economic and technological development of Nigeria and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), it has become imperative for all stakeholders to partner and be stronger in moving the industry forward and it is for this reason that Nitda is partnering NCS in pursuit of its mandate to drive the development and growth of IT companies and institutions in Nigeria.”
He said the partnership with Smedan is also very strategic considering the fact that most IT Companies in Nigeria are in the range of small and medium scale enterprises.
“This exhibition is expected to showcase various IT products and services in the country especially those manufactured or assembled in Nigeria. Software companies are also expected in their numbers to showcase various indigenous software developed by Nigerians,” he said.
“Nitex is the first of its kind as it is expected to showcase diverse IT products and not just software alone. Schools with IT products, government institutions that have leveraged on IT to applying governance in their respective institutions are expected to show to Nigerians and the world how IT has redefined governance in their own institutions.”
Dignitaries from both the private and Public Sectors, Non-Governmental Organizations, members of the diplomatic community, educational institutions, policy makers and the public are expected to visit Nitex venue to see various IT products on display, even as exhibitors have also promised to make the products available at a much reduced rate as long as the event lasts, Uwadia informed.
