Prof. Dora Akunyili, minister of Information and Communications has said that Nigeria will meet the digitisation target of 2011.
This, she stated while inspecting the new transmission station of Voice of Nigeria (Von) under construction at Lugbe, an Abuja suburb.
The minister expressed confidence that Von will add more flavour to digitisation in the country with the completion of its facilities, adding that the project was laudable and ranked among the best in Africa.
She also said the facility on completion, will help Von in carrying out the rebranding image. “This is the time Nigeria needs an attitudinal change in all aspects of life.”
Akunyili encouraged Von to stay focused on the project of rebranding the country’s image and never to be distracted by any individual or group.
Alhaji Abubakar Jijiwa, director general, Von gave assurance that the organization would meet the deadline of ditigisation, and that the new transmission station would be equipped with modern technology that would allow for effortless switch-over.
Jijiwa said the major problem currently confronting the organization is the state of power supply, which delays or terminates broadcast signals. He therefore asked the minister to, on the behalf of Von, appeal to the government on the need for the organization to connect to the airport electricity supply source for constant supply.
He informed that the transmission station would be completed by August this year, and would commence broadcast as soon as everything is put in place.
The Von boss stated that a N5 billion project was already completed in its Lagos office, and that the Abuja one will gulp up to N13 billion, and would transmit programmes directly to every part of the world, and by extension assist the government in the rebranding project.
