The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has expressed regrets series of complaints by Nigerians resulting from interruption of services at some of our NIN Enrolment Centres across the country, due to power failure.
In a statement signed by Abdul-hamid Umar, general manager, Corporate Communication, the Commission urged Nigerians “to please bear with NIMC as we address these issues through the deployment of alternative power sources, even in the face of scarce resources.
“In the light of this, citizens are encouraged to avail themselves the opportunity of utilising our online pre-enrolment portal (www.penrol.gov.ng) to pre-register their demographic data and printout a 2D barcode to take with them for presentation at the enrolment centre, and reduce the amount of time required for the exercise”.
Umar added that citizens and legal residents are to note that the National Identification Number (NIN) is their identity “and most important to us, not the physical e-ID Card. We are however already issuing the cards to all who have enrolled and have their NIN. In this vein, we encourage all who were enrolled and issued with their NIN in 2012 and 2013 to expect SMS notifications from NIMC, inviting them to pick up their cards at any of our card activation centres on a specified date/time.
“The general public is hereby urged to bear with the Commission as we do our best to deliver on this painstaking but all important national assignment, which does not only involve the delicate capturing and storage of data, but a sequence of high technology driven processes that ensures a secured and dependable database and e-ID Card,” he added.
