Nigerian Postal Services (Nipost) has inked Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with Globacom Nigeria Limited, telecoms giant and Equatel Telecommunications Limited to fast track the penetration of consolidated communications services throughout the country,
With the MoU, Globacom will leverage on Nipost’s spread to reach the rural populace and offer wide range of services, including broadband Internet services, sale of recharge cards and SIM replacement the statement said.
Equatel, on the other hand, is handling the installation of public pay phones in major post offices across the country. It will also provide alternative power sources in areas that are yet to be connected to the national grid. Currently, about 170 post offices have been fully installed with functional public pay phones.
Mrs. Hussiana Ato, public relations manager, Nipost  in a statement last week said the “Nipost will pursue its partnership with critical stakeholders in 2010, especially in the development of ICT infrastructure in major post offices nationwide as part of the management’s desire to serve the people better and make the post office a one-stop-shop.
“Some of the stakeholders who have already signed MOU with Nipost include Messrs Equatel Telecommunications Limited and Globacom Limited.”
