NiRA Says .ng Domain Name Registration Totalled 22,113 in 2015

The total domain names with Nigeria identification on the cyberspace reached 22,113 in December 2015.

This shows an increase with 7,651 new domain names, compared to 14,462 total domain names the country recorded in year 2014.
 
The country could be said to gain improved international recognition on the cyberspace as growth was also recorded in the number of portal domain names renewals during the course of the out-gone year as Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) Domain Report from January to December 2015 report indicated.

Nigeria CommunicationsWeek gathered that in 2014, 18,870 domain names were renewed to the .ng country code Top Level Domain in the year, but this was albeit slighted in 2015 according to data released by NiRA, which indicates 11,319 portals were renewed last year.
 
A breakdown of the domain report shows that in the first quarter of the year, 4,859 registrations were made while 3,394 portals that have due licences renewed as 113 platforms were transferred. While more portals were registered with the record of 5107 in the second quarter of the year.

According to the report endorsed by Sunday Folayan, NiRA\'s President, more portals were renewed as 3,272 sites were re-registered but 149 portals were transferred as maintained in NiRA’s database.
 
In the third quarter of the year, Nigeria recorded continued addition on domain registration on the cyberspace and renewal logs with 6,225 and 3,607; portals respectively except that there was 106 transfer during the periods.
 
Though there were increasing active domain names with the country identity all through the quarters of the year, however, the last quarter witness a surprising upshot as the number of the registered domain names registered during the period recorded the highest for the year with 5,922 portals and 3,607  renewals of platforms, however with the highest numbers of transfers for the year with the record of 204 on the log‎.
