The Nigeria internet Registration Association (NiRA) has introduced “.ng Scout”, as part of measures to promote .ng domain name registration and adoption in the country.

According to a statement contained in its e-newsletter, NiRA said that in recognition that appearances and perception are very important in domain name business, the executive board of directors have raised the profile of the .ng brand and galvanized the output of its mission and services at the NiRA Secretariat.

Confirming the new development, Mr. Sunday Folayan, president of NiRA, said that Board took the bold initiatives to rebrand and project .ng.

“I call on all to join in this effort to grow the number of .ng domain names. It is our National resource, our property, let us support and promote it. Let us adopt the .ng brand as our online Identity.

“As part of our continuous business development strategy and being true to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plans of youth empowerment, NiRA has introduced “.NG Scout (NGS)”’.

Folayan further explained that the NGS will create awareness of the .ng identity for Nigerians and achieve growth in the usage and acquisition of .ng domain name.

This would further create rapid economic growth and jobs through envisaged increase in the number of resellers, registrars, hosting companies, web designers/developers, app developers, etc.

According to him, there are other planned social media platform awareness programmes, which would be launched in the nearest future.

“We look forward to the creativity of the Nigerian youths that would be unveiled with all the planned programmes. These would improve the position of the .ng brand in the global arena.
