NITDA to Sponsor Python Programme in Nigeria

National Information Technology Development Agency, (Nitda) plans to sponsor Python programming trainings all over the country in order to develop more opportunities to develop software programming, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek has learnt
The agency also hopes to consolidate on the capacity building on the “state of the art computer programming language for Free and Open Source Software, (FOSS).  
“Python,” can be used to develop applications such as web design and application and it is a new, reliable and robust application that can be used for system development and for acquisition of knowledge.
Prof. Cleopas Angaye, director general of Nitda said that the programme can be used by individuals because it is free and not a complicated programme that needs license to use.
He reiterated the intention of Nitda to organize the training in other zones in the country but was quick to add that financial constraint might restrict the agency in achieving this in earnest.
Omo Oaiya, chief executive officer of DATASPHIR and coordinator Python African Tour, said that his team was on ground to train a lot of Nigerians on Python Language Programming, adding that they were committed to take up Python in Nigeria and actually move it forward.      
He said: “We decided to host the first edition in Abuja first to see how it works and the workshop will be replicated in other parts of the country. This is the reason we decided to call it Python Nigeria.”
 “This is the first step of the tour, and we are going to create a community of Pythoners in Nigeria and this doesn’t stop here, we are hoping to drive this because of this, we broke the groups into two groups in order to make it easier to teach; we are looking for committed people who will take up Python Nigeria and actually move it forward,” he added.
