Mr. Olumide Balogun, Nokia’s Services Manager for Ecosystem Developer Experience (EDX) has said that there are over 177 publishers of applications on Nokia Store with more than one million downloads for their apps.
According to him app developers on the Nokia platform have a 160 percent chance of getting their applications downloaded than any other platform. This is largely because of Nokia’s widespread availability across the globe. Globally Nokia Store is getting 11 million downloads per day!
Nokia is the world’s leading manufacturer of mobile phones and ships the highest volumes of mobile phones every year. Mr. Balogun said Nokia will continue to encourage local developers to build locally relevant apps for the African market
The Nokia Services Manager also outlined the opportunities for generating huge income for app developers on the Nokia Store. The opportunities include app purchasing and in-app advertising. The challenge for app developers therefore is to build applications that will attract downloads from millions of Nokia consumers across the world. He said the developer of any application on the Nokia store gets 70 of all accruing revenue
Apart from making its platform available, Nokia supports developers in a variety of ways including training and other forms of promotion. Only recently, the mobile giants organized a competition among app developers across West Africa known as the Create for Millions campaign. The first three winners are being sponsored by Nokia to Mobile World Congress holding in Barcelona, Spain, next month. Mobile World Congress is the largest conference on mobile technology in the world.
Also speaking at the occasion, publisher of popular Nigerian app, “DANFO” Mr. Bayo Puddicomb thanked Nokia for proving app developers the opportunity to improve their creativity and earn decent income. His application “DANFO” is already being downloaded in over 5 countries.
