Nokia Nigeria and MTN Nigeria have joined forces to delight their customers in Nigeria with a unique value proposition.
The offerings include free data on the new Nokia Asha 501 range and the Nokia Xpress browser customized for MTN subscribers across the country.
Nick Imudia, managing director, Nokia West and Central Africa said this was a clear demonstration of Nokia’s willingness to provide more value for its customers.
“This deal with MTN allows Nokia to present the unique selling propositions of the Asha 501 smartphone to the vast majority of mobile telephone subscribers on the MTN network in Nigeria. This will give our customers the opportunity to enjoy the numerous apps on the smartphone easily,” he said.
The Nokia Asha 501 smartphone comes pre-loaded with the Nokia Xpress Browser which enables 90% data compression thereby making it faster and cheaper for consumers to access the internet and even watch videos.
“Currently, we have 6 million users of the Nokia Xpress browser in Nigeria and the majority of those are MTN subscribers, making MTN the second largest operator on the Nokia Xpress Browser globally. That is why this partnership on the new Nokia Asha 501 with MTN as the leading network in Nigeria, makes complete sense for our consumers,” Imudia added.
The Nokia Asha 501 is designed to bring all the social apps together; including Facebook and Twitter with a shared push notification service, meaning users are always up to speed with the latest news without having to open individual apps. A user can get to YouTube with one touch, straight from the home screen.
On his part, Larry Annetts, chief marketing officer, MTN Nigeria, is happy with the partnership.
“As the number one mobile operator and by far the leading provider of internet services to over 23 million mobile subscribers in Nigeria, we are very happy to partner with Nokia in offering our esteemed customers the advantages of data compression and superfast browsing experience that come with the Nokia Xpress browser. We are strengthening these offerings with free Facebook and data offers for subscribers using the Nokia Asha 501 device and a wide range of other Nokia Asha devices in Nigeria,” he said.
The new Nokia Asha 501 recently introduced into the Nigerian market, is the first of its kind in the new generation of Nokia Asha devices, using the new Asha operating system. The device is available in all Nokia retail stores and MTN centers.
