Oceanic Bank Plc, Nigeria’s financial powerhouse has adopted a new Internet protocol-based wireless access banking system, which now allows it provide excellent and comprehensive service to its customers, Nigeria CommunicationsWeek can reveal.
With the implementation of the new flexible, scalable systems and backhaul technology rooted in WiMAX, Oceanic Bank has comfortably shifted from its previous frame relay technology, a packet-switched technology that uses bridges, routers, or FRADs (Frame-Relay access devices).
WiMAX is standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL and its notable advantage comes from combining SOFDMA with smart antenna technologies
Frame relay technology, is more difficult to configure and manage properly.
Nigeria CommunicationsWeek gathered that the new technology was integrated for the bank by DCC Satellite & Networks Limited, the communications arm of the Computer Warehouse Group working in conjunction with EION, Ottawa, Canada based broadband wireless technology maker for an undisclosed sum.
The new EION's point-to-point technology at Oceanic Bank branches in major metropolitan cities will enable the bank deliver unbeatable services and superior returns to all the stakeholders.
Nigeria CommunicationsWeek gathered that the bank chose EION's solution because of its ability to resist wireless interference in the radio frequency congested cities of Nigeria.
Oceanic Bank also plan roll out EION's Ultima 3 and LibraPlus 5 systems in its future expansion scheme because the initial technology supports robust and scalable broadband gateways.
Nigeria CommunicationsWeek gathered further that the EION technology will be maintained by DCC Satellite & Networks Limited which has a wealth of experience in VSAT, Metropolitan Area Networks, Wide Area Networks, Local Area Networks and Systems Integration.
Oceanic Bank is one of the largest in Nigeria with impressive performance over the years which accounts for the quality of its customer portfolio.
