Mr Osagie Okunbor, managing director of Shell Petroleum Development Company, and two others have been sentenced to three months in prison with hard labour by a Port Harcourt High Court.
Others also sentenced to three months in prison with hard labour in contempt proceedings were Nike Oyinlola, Shell’s secretary and head of legal, and t Keibi Atemie, deputy country head of legal/managing counsel global litigation sub-Sahara Africa.
George Omeriji, presiding judge, has directed the Nigerian Police Force and other law enforcement to effect immediate arrest of the aforementioned Shell officials who were absent in court and send them to prison.
Okunbor was appointed the Managing Director of The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (SPDC) and Country Chair, Shell Companies in Nigeria on March 1, 2015.
Before his current role, Osagie worked in The Hague, Netherlands for the Shell Group as Senior Advisor, Upstream International Operated business, supporting the implementation of the revised strategy for positioning Shell Companies in Nigeria for a stronger and more sustainable future.
He is currently the Chairman of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce.
