OLX, Nigeria’s number one online classified has reassured users on safety while using the platform.
Lola Masha, country manager, OLX, while speaking at a cross-border business cooperation and development in a conference themed “Making E-commerce more secure in Nigeria” organised by OLX in partnership with Mobile Monday Nigeria (MoMo) a global community of mobile industry developers, designers and influential individuals, disclosed that they have deployed both human and technology monitoring measures to curb incessant threats posed by traitors to their business partners.
The measures, Masha disclosed, are already bearing fruits with two suspects apprehended of whom one is already serving jail term.
Speakers at the event were Ope Adeoye, Manager, Strategy and Alliances Interswitch; Femi Taiwo, CEO/CTO INITS Limited; Jameelah Ayedun MD/CEO, CR Services and Lola Masha; Country Manager, OLX sharing insights on safety practices in the ecommerce space.
Masha said, “the partnership with MoMo is to further enhance OLX commitment to keeping the site safe and secure for its users”.
The OLX Country Manager also added that “working closely with the Nigeria Police Force, OLX has been able to catch two scammers on the site showing our dedication to keeping OLX users’ safe and ensuring that every user experiences a smooth transaction on the site”.
Furthermore, Jameelah Ayedun, managing director, CR Services - described it as a new vista for online retailers in Nigeria, and OLX is championing the way by empowering OLX users to conduct more accountable business transactions.
She said, “We are delighted to partner with OLX towards providing a safe and secure way through which more people can transact business online.
Speaking on the partnership (CSP) Charles Okafor, chief superintendent of Police, stated that “the Nigerian Police Force is actively working with OLX to ensure online offenders (scammers) are caught and brought to justice”.
CSP Okafor also commended OLX on their dedication to keeping their site safe for Nigerian citizens.
On his part, Femi Taiwo, CEO/CTO INITS Limited, recommended a constant update of ecommerce platforms' security apparatuses to stay ahead of scammers.
According to Taiwo, cyber thieves are also innovative and try to stay ahead of companies who are usually breached without their knowledge for certain period of time.
Ope Adeoye, manager, Strategy and Alliances Interswitch, aligned with Masha who said that ecommerce users should be weary of scammers, be more vigilant and use common security tips to avoid their ploys.
He described as unprofessional and uncivilised to part away with money when the supposed product has not been provided; "just like it is in the physical market like Yaba, you can't pay for a product unless you have seen the goods".
He also warned companies to avoid measures where sensitive data regarding the customers get in the hands of third parties without due diligence.
