Omatek Equips OAU Staff, Students with PCs

Omatek Computers  and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile- Ife have entered into a partnership that will make the staff and students of the institution proud owners of PCs; stemming from the N500 million ICT finance agreement between Omatek and Afribank.
This was made known at the just concluded ICT/Job Fair organised at the OAU main campus by the institution’s management in partnership with Omatek and some other IT and Telecom companies in Nigeria.
Florence Seriki, GMD/CEO, Omatek represented by Duke Ekpeyong, group general manager, revealed that they are also ready to partner with the OAU in the area of research and development to advance Nigeria’s footprint into new areas of technological innovations.
Chronicling the history of Omatek in the last 21 years, Seriki said the company had also opened a factory in Ghana where its products are now manufactured as in Nigeria.
While appreciating the efforts of the participating companies at the exhibition, Prof Michael Faborode, vice chancellor of the university, represented by Prof Funmilayo Togoun-Bickersteth, deputy vice chancellor (Academics), said that achieving the millennium development goals that had been much talked about would be far-fetched without carrying the Nigerian students along.
Faborode said Nigeria could not afford to be complacent, adding: “We need to know what it requires as far as IT skills are concerned.”
He said the fair which was first of its kind on campus of any Nigerian university would afford both the staff and students of OAU to be abreast of current trends in the ICT world.
“Let me then charge you all to make this fair worthwhile by contributing meaningfully during the sessions. Avail yourself the opportunity to interact with the companies at the available stands,” he said.
Further, he said members of the university communities would have the opportunity to explore the contributions various IT companies participating at the fair had been making to national development; adding that it would highlight and explore different perspectives of ICT at the national level.
