One World.net Trains FCT Teachers on ICT

One world.net, an international NGO, said it had trained teachers from six secondary schools in the FCT on the use of ICT to impart knowledge.

Miss Uju Oformata, programme coordinator, said that the aim of the programme was to help teachers to meet the standard of development in the use of ICT as a teaching tool.

“It is also a programme that focuses on the younger ones to know more about family life as well as HIV and AIDS through the use of ICT,” she said

She said as the world was fast developing in ICT, there was the need for the younger ones to get more acquainted with it by using information made available on the Internet.

“The students have to be involved in the series of activities, there are information which is passed to them through info cartoon and other means,’’ Oformata added.

She said that teachers who were going through the training would be used to train other teachers in the FCT.“We selected them from three different federal government and the FCT junior secondary schools. “Our focus now will be on schools that have the facilities so that it will be easier for the teachers to put into practice what they have learnt,” she added.

According to her, the teachers involved are teachers in the field of social sciences and information technology.

“The idea is that they are people who have the basic skill of teaching on HIV and AIDS and the use of ICT, so this programme is in line with what is obtainable in schools.

“The young ones are direly in need of information, especially the girls who are vulnerable to HIV and other diseases.

“This will be a quick access to knowledge as they can always read and watch the cartoon. `This will enhance their knowledge and direct their views toward the protection of their lives,” she said.
