Online Poll Favours APC to Win PDP in 2015 Elections

If Nigeria’s 2015 presidential election was conducted yesterday (August 26), All Progressives Congress (APC), the newly registered political party would have defeated the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with 52.94 per cent of the vote, going by the result of the online survey conducted by WorldStage Newsonline.

WorldStage Newsonline had in its survey asked, ‘Does the newly registered All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria has the quality to dislodge the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the presidency in 2015?.

47.06 per cent voted that APC cannot dislodge PDP while 52.94 per cent voted that it would do.

APC is a Nigerian political party formed on  February 6, through an alliance by four biggest opposition parties – the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The merger resolution was signed by Tom Ikimi, who represented the ACN; Senator Annie Okonkwo on behalf of the APGA; former governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, the Chairman of ANPP’s Merger Committee; and Garba Sadi, the Chairman of CPC’s Merger Committee.

The party received approval from the nation’s electoral umpire Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on July 31, 2013 to become a political party and subsequently withdrew the operating licenses of the three previous and merging parties ( the ACN, CPC and ANPP).

According to the WorldStage Newsonline, Nigerian middle class see the emerging APC as the alternative to the ruling PDP.

The ruling PDP had congratulated the APC for her registration as a political party but quick to note that the APC was no threat to its electoral chances.

On the other hand, the PDP has won every Presidential election since 1999, and is the dominant party in the Fourth Republic.

It produced Olusegun Obasanjo as the president in 1999; Umaru Yar’Adua in 2007 and Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.

On the latest survey, Segun Adeleye, president/CEO, WorldStage said it would be repeated at different time before the 2015 elections in order to monitor the mood of potential voters from time to time.
