Online Voting For BoICT Awards 2016 Begins

Beacon of Information and Communication Technology (BoICT) awards series, widely regarded as the most prestigious annual event available in the ICT industry in Nigeria, has opened its portal to the general public to vote for nominees of this year’s Awards.

The awards ceremony reward best practices and recognize outstanding contributions to the growth of the sector, according to Mr. ken Nwogbo, Chief Executive Officer and Editor in-Chief, CommunicationsWeek Media Limited, and the organisers of the lecture.

Mr. Nwogbo announced theme for this year’s lecture as:  “Data Centre as Kiln of Industrialization and Transformation”.

“The awards are free and awardees are chosen by readers of Nigeria CommunicationsWeek through a transparent voting process,” Mr. Nwogbo said.

Now in its seventh year, the award is the highlight of the daylong event which starts with the distinguished lecture series.

At the inaugural edition, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, then executive vice chairman, Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) delivered the lecture and gazing into the crystal ball, foretold a broadband revolution.

The following year, it was the turn of Engr. Yomi Bolarinwa, former Director-General of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) who x-rayed the digitization of broadcasting.

In 2012, Dr. Jean Luc Fort, CEO at OR System France and a specialist in Counterparty Risk wowed the crowd with expectations from mobile money.

In 2013, Professor Chris Nwagboso, Chairman, Knowledge Factory International, United Kingdom and one of the best brains in integrated transport and automotive systems in world; with works in innovation and enterprise delivered the keynote.

He spoke on the theme: “Technology Adaption; Looking IT Straight In the Eye”.

Uche Orji, managing director/chief executive officer, Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), in 2014, shared his wealth of global experience in the financial services sector with ICT industry.

Last year, Biodun Omoniyi, Managing Director/CEO, VDT Communications delivered a compelling keynote and insights at the event with the theme: “What Next for Nigerian Telecommunications?

On the selection process for the awards, the CommunicationsWeek Media boss, explained that the process is confidential and the identities of those people who nominated and voted are not revealed.

“Nigeria CommunicationWeek also retains independent Quality experts in business communication, engineers, physicists, mathematicians, economists, sociologists and reporters which analyze public information,” he said.

The organisers said important personalities in the country are warming up to grace the event which is in its seventh year.
