Dr. Asuquo Abianga, the area postal manager (APM), Lagos mainland Territory (LMT) of NIPOST, has described the Post as best placed to drive economic, social, financial and digital inclusion of all citizens of the world.
Abianga made the remark at the World Post Day & Customers’ Forum 2015 which took place at the Lagos mainland Territory (LMT) of NIPOST and the honouring 2 of its customers, 6 of its staff and Chidera Ifinta, a 3rd place winner of 2015 Universal Postal Union (UPU) letter writing competition for young people.
In his address, the Area Postal Manager of LMT, stated that since the establishment of the Postal Union in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland, its anniversary has always been celebrated every October 9, across, approximately 160 countries.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “The Post: Delivery for People and Business Daily”, Abianga said, was very apt since given the Universal nature, the Post is best placed to drive economic, social, financial and digital inclusion of all citizens of the world.
He added that the over 1billion people hold 1.06billion postal accounts, giving them access to postal financial services, thereby making the Post the second biggest contributor to financial inclusion after the banking sector.
The APM also urged the all staff of NIPOST to continually strive to assist the organization to achieve its set objectives since, “NIPOST is ours, we are here because we prefer NIPOST as our best option, therefore, let’s make the best of our God given job and opportunity”.
The 2 customers nominated for awards were Victor Investment Co. Limited and Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).
Also, 6 of the staff of the Mainland Territory received awards for good performances on their various duty posts within the course of the year 2015. They include, Best Driver-Mr. Ogunbiyi Rufus; Best Boarding Offcier- Mr. Nwabuego Patrick; Best Servicom Desk Officer- Mrs. Bunmi Joseph; Best Chief Supervisor (Cash)- Mrs. F. Ojole; Best Counter Officer- Mr. Daniel Ikpehae and Best Postman- Mr. Omobayo David.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of token of appreciation from NIPOST Corporate headquarters, Abuja and Lagos Mainland Territory to the 3rd place winner of the 2015 UPU letter writing competition- Miss Ifinta Chidera of St. Jude’s Private School, FESTAC, Lagos.
The event which took place at the premises of the General Post Office, Ikeja, saw in attendance Mr. Yahaya Rufai, general manager, EMS Nigeria, represented by Mr. Umannah, the public relations office of EMS Nigeria, among other dignitaries.
