Hell broke loose yesterday when a passenger on a Aero Contractors’ flight from Lagos to Kano raised a fire alarm causing other passengers on the flight to panic.
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), confirmed the incident, but noted that it was a false alarm.
It all started at about 6.30am, when the aircraft was about to take-off and the passenger who sat by one of the emergency exits, raised the alarm and proceeded to disembark from the aircraft through the emergency exit.
Fan Ndubuoke, general manager public affairs of NCAA, confirmed the incident, adding that “Investigations revealed that what the passenger saw was actually smoke from a nearby generator, which was used to power a system not connected to the plane. So, he jumped out through the emergency exit and all the other passengers were also asked to disembark.
“Eventually, a new aircraft was brought to take the passengers down to Kano so that they would be at ease, while the passenger who raised the alarm was detained and interrogated.”
