Paradigm Initiative Commends Imode Community On DiLiCe Project

Paradigm Initiative, a social enterprise that builds an ICT-enabled support system and advocates digital rights in order to improve livelihoods for under-served youth, has applauded the Imode Development Community (IDA), Oke-Ero, Kwara State, foresightedness that led to the recently commissioned Digital Literacy Centre project.

IDA’s moves towards making IDA a digitally smart community that delivers a decent living and respectable future to its people, irrespective of their social status, was applauded by PIN which says that technology is no longer a luxury hence no one should be denied of the privilege.

The Community development association borrowing a leaf from the National Information Technology (NIT) Policy seeks to make the community dwellers, especially the youths, become IT complaint and ‘netizens’ in the information society by using IT as the engine for sustainable development and global competiveness.

Speaking at the official launch, Mr. Gbenga Sesan, executive director at PIN represented by Mr. Tosin Abolaji, programme manager, said that that the project is a welcome development and encouraged such in every community.

“Technology is now a necessity not a luxury and no one should be denied of the privilege. Our work at Paradigm Initiative is around youth and community development that makes us connect more with the Imode Community Digital Literacy Centre project. The youth of Imode Community will no longer be denied the opportunities that come with ICT.

The Paradigm Initiative (PI) works with the Association on the project, basically on training and capacity building.

Speaking on this, he said, “We will be helping and assisting with curriculum development, resource persons for delivering of the training, and sustainability of the project.

“It’s a well-equipped facility that will birth huge impact if it’s well utilised. The facility is primarily setup for the youth in the community and we believe they won’t be denied of it.

“We will encourage the association to have a committee that will look into the management of the facility, design a program that will ensure that the youth are regularly/constantly trained, even use the facility as a source of generating fund for the school and community by making it a resource centre. Neighboring communities can subscribe to the usage of the facility and pay stipends. This list goes on and on but what is very important is a strong management”, he added.
