PATCH Targets African Tech Community Development

It is a known fact that Africa’s tech community has made giant strides in recent times, but certainly needs more support and exposure. Against this backdrop, the Pan-African Association of Online technology Publishers (PATCH) was born late last year, as a non-profit organization that is committed to supporting Africa’s fledging tech community through information sharing, collaboration and advocacy.

According to Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, vice president of PATCH, the Association aims to provide a suitable platform to foster learning and development, initiating and building partnerships among the members.

Agbata added that PATCH will serve as a platform to propagate further collaboration among bloggers.

He further explained that the organization will train members and interested members of the public on various aspects of blogging, online publishing, digital media, social media marketing, content development and mobile marketing.

“The principal aim of the Association is to bring together African bloggers who are in the technology eco-system closer, working together for the overall benefit of our fledging ICT industry. We must keep telling our own tech stories ourselves and that is why we see this as a movement that will grow rapidly.

“The organization will engage in consultation and advocacy that will seek the growth of the local technology market for both new and growing startup”.

Part of the strategies, he said, “is to create rewarding events and conferences that will further add value to the ecosystem. An ecosystem that has thrived and keeps thriving with little or no support, it is time to beam light on Africa’s promising future which is her tech startups and innovations, who are working so hard to make a difference”.
