Pavegen Systems displaying innovative prowess has showcased floor tile technology that converts the kinetic energy from human footfall into renewable electricity and can be used to power low-energy off-grid applications, such as street lights, wayfinding signage or advertisement displays.
The tiles generate power every time someone walks on the Pavegen tiles and such energy can be stored or used immediately.
In addition, Pavegen has developed a self-powered wireless data feedback system that can be integrated in to all the installations.
The technology provides people with a tangible form of renewable energy that they can directly and physically engage with.
The concept for the technology and its design were the result of a research program by Laurence Kemball-Cook, the founder and CEO, whilst investigating sustainable street lighting solutions.
The Company with long standing pedigree in technological development unveiled the system which thrives in high-football areas.
Ticket barriers at tube stations, departure gates at airports or shopping centre concourses are just a few environments to which Pavegen technology is highly suited.
Given a steady stream of football, each tile generates between 3 joules per footsteps, the document showed. The modular design of the product also allows multiple tiles to be linked as part of a larger system.
“A typical installation of tiles with sufficient football will generate enough energy to power lighting for over 12 hours. The energy from each slab can be stored within batteries,” the Company said.
Meanwhile, the product can power, LED pedestrian lighting, outdoor or indoor advertising; shop frontage lighting, wireless data- communication, interactive and educational displays, information displays, charge docking stations for portable electronic devices, a web range bespoke applications.
On the product range, Pavegen said it currently offers two different models to the market for permanent and experiential installations, the ‘Pavegen’ and the ‘Pavegen Luminaire’.
The tiles are customised and offer a variety of key selling points to her diverse client range. Similarly, the tiles function in the same way to convert the kinetic energy from human football, to electricity, suitable for powering range of applications.
The ‘Pavegen’ tile is the Company’s core kinetic harvesting product, as 100% of the collected energy is used to power applications.
It offers the option to seamlessly incorporate Pavegen into the bespoke designs through top surfaces. The Pavegen Luminaire also features a central light feature and is used exclusively for experiential installations.
Pavgene offers options, like the data from each Pavegen can be sent to the internet.
This allows online accountability for the movement of people. The data can be integrated with Facebook, Twitter or on a custom website.
The Pavegen API allows the data to be used in a variety of ways, fro controlling the lighting in smart cities through operating doors or any custom experience and this is available to be adapted on a project basis
