Phase3 Dangles Enhanced, Secure Data Sharing with MPLS Roll-Out

Phase3 Telecom, West Africa’s largest independent fibre optic infrastructure provider today announced the addition of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) to its growing network, enabling clients, both new and existing, to access as well as share large amounts of data from multiple locations.

Even in the most remote of locations, this expansion can deliver speeds of 100 megabits per second (mbps) and above and supplements Phase 3’s existing infrastructure and network solutions.

MPLS is a technology for transporting information data/voice/video between two or more locations.

It enables customers with offices in different locations to lease virtual private networks (VPNs) that are effected on routers which sit on the networks of communications providers.

Stanley Jegede, Phase3 Telecom’s chief executive officer,  explained  that “the addition of the MPLS solution further supplements our rapidly evolving network and will further facilitate the provision of affordable and reliable broadband connectivity and telecommunications services for our increasing client base in the health, education, oil & gas, financial and public sectors across the continent.”

While digitizing information in electronic databases for easy sharing within a network or across networks is not a recent phenomenon, its application within telecoms across West Africa has been limited.

Phase3 has established strong Points of Presence (POP) across West Africa; where reliable communication has been limited or non-existent until now.

These Points of Presence will broaden access to Phase3’s Multi-Protocol Label Switching network capabilities, linking offices and data centres across West Africa (including remote areas) to the rest of the world.

This will give clients access to knowledge that they can leverage for the benefit of their businesses as they grow in the global knowledge-based economy.
