Registration is now on for the Postal Banking and Mobile Money training in Lagos, an event organized by MobileMoney Africa and supported by Nigeria CommunicationsWeek.
Emmanuel Okoegwale, spokesperson for the organizers said Nigeria in coming months will join the League of Nations like Brazil, Kenya and Philippines Post Offices in meeting the needs of millions of unbanked populations for formal financial services using mobile money platforms.
He said in Kenya alone more than 7 million subscribers of Mpesa access financial services from outlets like post offices.
Piet Biemans, CEO of Pofib, Netherlands BV, lead facilitator, said the role of banks and post offices in the financial services sector has been the subject of an extensive research of the World Bank in 2006 with the focus on improving access to financial services.
“The conclusions of this research remains valid as a sustainable business case for all stakeholders involved in the mobile money developments in developing countries can be supported by the synergy possibilities derived from this ‘broadening’ of mass retail financial services. The activities to realize the needed changes within the Postal and Postbank institutions require a thorough and integrated approach.”
The training will focus on mobile money transfers (MMT) and mobile banking (MB), building a business case for postal outlet agent banking.
Okoegwale explained that “with MobileMoneyAfrica’s postal banking training course, participants will get to learn all relevant information through an attractive and interactive program. This training is designed to add value to a broad audience from the technology providers, mobile industry and is beneficial for employees of financial institutions as well as those who are interested in learning all about Agent Banking, Postal Banking and Mobile Money.”
Expected to attend the event he added are decision makers and product managers from financial institutions (Banks and Micro Finance organisations), Nigerian Postal Service, Courier firms, International Remittance firms, NGOs, regulators and Mobile Money providers.
