President Goodluck Jonathan approved yesterday a list of 305 Nigerians and non-Nigerians for the 2013/2014 National Honours Award including his cook, a taxi driver and a traffic warden.
Six military officers, comprising: Alex Badeh, chief of Defence Staff; Kenneth Minimah, chief of Army Staff; Usman Jibrin, chief of Naval Staff; and Adesola Amosu, chief of Air Staff have been approved by the President to be conferred with this year’s National Honours Awards.
They all to be conferred with Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
Unlike two previous editions, there will be no conferment of GCON this year.
Dr. Mike Adenuga, Globacom Limited chairman, last year joined Alhaji Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Group, among personalities who had received the award of Grand Commander of the Niger.
GCON is usually bestowed on the country’s Vice-President; but Dangote made history when he was conferred with the award.
Also among those to be honoured are John Odigie-Oyegun, All Progressives Congress (APC) National chairman.
According to a statement on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation by Dr. Adeyemo, M. Tunde, director (Special Duties Office), the investiture holds by 9am on September 29 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Apart from the service chiefs also in the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) category are: Hon. Justice Abubakar Bashir Wali, Justice of the Supreme Court, (Rtd) (CFR).
