The next edition of the family entertainment programme, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by Globacom, is refocusing attention on the traditional method of saving money, called Osusu or Esusu in Yoruba.
The old method of saving money otherwise called thrift collection in modern day terminology was very strong in African communities until the arrival of modern day banking.
The latest episode of Professor Johnbull, entitled Osusu Contribution, is woven around a character called Mr. Rowland (Mounago Collins Nche), who prides himself as the “coordinator of Corporate Osusu Group”.
The fresh episode not only seeks to reawaken consciousness for osusu especially among petty traders, but also warns against the dangers of going into ‘osusu’ with people of questionable character.
The episode sheds light on some malpractices indulged in by some operators of osusu in their bid to exploit contributors. How does Jeroboam (Osita Iheme) escape being scammed? Is there wisdom in taking the number one position in any osusu or thrift contribution? Are there registered cooperative societies? The episode provides answers.
The new episode features the lead character, Professor Johnbull, played by Kanayo O. Kanayo, Etuk (Imeh Bishop); Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso); Mai Doya (Funky Mallam); Ufoma (Bimbo Akintola); Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko); Flash (Stephen Odimgbe) Abadnego (Martins Nebo) and Samson(Ogus Baba).
The episode goes on air on Sunday on the DSTV Africa Magic Family and GOTV Channel 2 at 6.00 p.m., with repeat broadcast on Thursday at 9.30 p.m. on the cable TV channels.
It will also be aired on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday, with Anambra Broadcasting Service showing it at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday.
