Rotary Club Donates Artificial Limbs

The Rotary Club of Mushin Metropolitan 9110 Nigeria has extended helping hands to physically challenged in the society, giving out artificial limbs to some amputees.

Speaking during his investiture as the 29th President 2015/2016, the Rotary Club of Mushin Metropolitan 9110 at the Imperial Chinese Cuisine, Victoria Island, Walter Micah Andem said that some Nigerians had benefitted from the gesture of Rotary Club of Mushin Metropolitan 9110, saying more are still available.

The event was attended by people from all walks of life aside the Rotary Club International members.

At the occasion, 2015-2016 board of directors was inducted and the star project of the club also launched.

Andem said he was excited to be a member of a body that has been at the vanguard of helping mankind through the provision of basic necessities such as quality water, mosquito nets to maternity homes against.

He said the club has built an ICT centre in schools in remote areas in Lagos which has made it possible for about 1000-2000 students to have access to computer.

Going down the memory lane on why he joined Rotary club he said: “Actually, it was my background that made me join Rotary. My father was a philanthropist. I grew up with people who were not privileged, who could not afford quality education, we all grew up together, we slept in the same bed, eat from the same pot.”

He disclosed that the star project for the year would be the construction of a Biology laboratory for a school in Oshodi, Lagos, with club raising the N500,000 start off capital for the project, adding,  that the club would also donate blood transfusion machine to  a clinic in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

“We have given out three legs this year, actually we have artificial legs for amputees, we have given out two of these limbs already.  We are even appealing to members of the public if they know anyone that is amputated, they can refer such person to our club to come and pick up the legs,” he said.

The newly installed President added, “Rotary members unite at home and across the globe to put their experience and knowledge to work tackling most pressing challenges facing humanity”.

Rotary focuses its efforts in six areas: promoting peace, preventing diseases, providing access to clean water and sanitation, enhancing maternal and child health, improving basic education and literacy, and helping communities develop.
