Sale of PCs Drop

The sale of personal computer ( PC ) Systems in Ikeja computer village dropped in volume at the beginning of January,when compared to last year, Nigeria Communications Week can now reveal.
While some traders attributed the drop to the illiquidity in the economy, others said customers have stopped patronizing the market because of the increased activities of hawkers and street traders, who tamper with some of the items they sell to customers in the market.
A survey of the market by Nigeria Communications Week showed that both dealers of new and second-hand PCs Popularly called “Tokunbo”were affected.
The survey also showed that the reduction in the prices of PCs and other computer accessories did not influence its purchase.
For instance, a 15/17 inches white Monitor which formerly sold for #4,500 now sells for #3,500, a power cable which sold for #300 now sells for #200 and a black keyboard which sold for #700 now sells for #500.
Prince Kelly Adepoyigi, who sells and service computers, said consumers who visit the market concentrate on the purchase of mobile phones.
Prince Adepoyigi, who is the CEO of Alade Multitec Systems (AMS) is of the opinion that the volume of sales of PCs decreased because there is no money in circulation.
Also,another trader in the market who sells computers simply said,”the economy is bad and there is no money in circulation ,that is why we are not selling.”
