Samsung to train 10,000 Engineers in Africa by 2015

Samsung Electronics has pledged to train 10,000 electronics engineers across Africa by 2015 in its “Samsung Engineering Academy.”

Brovo Kim, managing director, Samsung Electronics, West Africa, disclosed this in Lagos at the graduation of the academy’s first set of 72 technical students.

He said that the academy was a part of the Global Samsung Hope for Children Outreach programme, which offered one year, free training courses for beneficiaries.

Kim said that the outreach programme was aimed at improving the quality of technical education in public secondary schools across Africa.

He said that the pilot phase of the Samsung Engineering Academy programmes started in South Africa in 2011.

According to him, it is also running in Ethiopia and Kenya, with plans to extend the initiative to more African countries by 2015.

“Skilled graduates are key to helping us reach our business goals, providing us with a workforce of technicians and exclusive service experts needed to differentiate Samsung as a quality service-oriented company,” he said.

Kim said that the 72 graduate students drawn from Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja, had successfully completed one year specialised training at the academy.

The chief executive explained that they were trained to repair and service modern digital electronic devices such as LCD TV’s, Smartphones, refrigerators, air conditioners and laptops, among other appliances.
