Sasware, the technology investment subsidiary of Signal Alliance is partnering the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) for the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) which kicked off in Lagos last weekend.
GEW is designed to expose individuals to the benefits of entrepreneurship through different activities and to motivate them to explore their own entrepreneurial ideas.
GEW Nigeria is hosted by EDC and has scheduled a variety of activities for the week. Some of these includes; Awareness Walk, Pitch-to-Me and Start-Up Weekend.
“We are passionate about programmes designed to discover, encourage and build ideas to new businesses that will grow to create employment. GEW is one of such which needs our support. Sasware is also startup that is barely over two years old and within this period we have invested in a number of small businesses in Nigeria” Said Ifeoma Uddoh, Sasware’s chief operating officer.
Collins Onuegbu, founder, Sasware has been lined up to declare open the Start-Up Weekend of the GEW. Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of establishing start-ups and launching successful ventures.
Onuegbu will deliver the keynote with the theme: Entrepreneurship: Startup to Company. Many Startup Weekend participants are first time entrepreneurs, half of which come from a technical background and half from a business background.
According to SMEDAN, Nigeria has over 17 million SMEs which are mostly micro-ventures. The challenges they face includes; access to finance, infrastructure, management skills, marketing, branding, accounting, people management, etc.
“We are investing and sharing our skills and experience to also mentor, incubate and promote startups in Nigeria,” Uddoh said.
