Nigerian Academy of Science has announced the conferment of four new fellowships bringing to 130 the total number of fellows in the elite club of scientists in the country.
The fellows who would be inducted on May 22 include professors Martin Anthony Aghaji, Olukayode Dada, Ikenna Onyido and Olugbemiro Sodeinde.
A statement from the Academy said that Aghaji is president of Nigeria Cardiac Society and the African Regional Representative and Steering Committee member of the International Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons since 1996.
Dada, it added, is professor of Clinical Biochemistry at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye and consultant Chemical Pathologist, Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
``Onyido is a physical organic chemist who has made significant contributions to mechanistic chemistry in nucleophilic substitution and addition processes,'' the statement said.
Sodeinde, according to the statement, is a professor of Paediatrics at the University of Ibadan.
``His main interest is on clinical aspects of malaria, with emphasis on its interaction with the genes for sickle cell anaemia and Glucose-6-phosphate deficiency in the human host,'' it said.
The statement also said that a public lecture on ``From Plants to Medicine: Challenges and Prospects'' will be delivered by Prof. Charles Wambebe (OFR) as part of the induction.
Prof. Bart Nnaji, former minister of Science and Technology and Ephraim Okon, a professor of Engineering Science in the Akwa Ibom State University of Technology (Akutech), are also expected to attend
