The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched e-allotment in the Nigerian Capital Market (NCM) which hit N1.94 trillion in 2007.

e-allotment is an electronic (automated) capturing of allotted shares into investors’ accounts in the Central Security Clearing Systems (CSCS). With the e-allotment now in place, the traditional practice of manual issuance of share certificates would be a thing of the past.

Musa Al-Faki, Director-General, SEC, said between January and May of this year, the market has recorded N393.85 billion in equities issuance, this, according to him, makes e-allotment imperative.

"As a matter of fact, it is the size and rapid growth in new issues that has made e-allotment imperative", Al-Faki told journalists at the Abuja Sheraton Hotel & Towers, avenue of the event.
