Senator Omisore Advises Engineers to Expand Scope of Operations

Registered members of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) have been advised to see beyond the thresholds  of professional limitations and expand their scope of operations in order to be more successful.

Senator Iyiola Alani Omisore, former deputy governor of Osun State and one time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, gave the advice recently at  Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, as a guest speaker at the 2016 African Engineering Conference, organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

The occasion also served as the NSE’s Annual General Meeting and the UNESCO African Engineering Week.

Senator Omisore who recently completed his doctor of philosophy degree in Infrastructure Finance with specialisation in Public Private Partnership from the prestigious International School of Management, Paris, stated that Engineers in Nigeria do not have any reason being poor if they could apply their creative minds in the field of engineering.

"Almost all sectors of the economy needs Engineers, and as long as there is a huge deficit in the Nigeria’s infrastructural needs, the onus lie on professional engineers to partner with respective governments through the global model of Public Private Sector Partnership service procurement approach ..", he said

In his presentation, titled, “Nigeria’s Infrastructure Deficit:  Beyond The Limitation of Finance In Public Private Partnership and Project Procurement Options”, Dr. Omisore explained that global perspectives to public private partnership (PPP) as best approach to infrastructural development, and the parochial factors militating against its successful implementation in Nigeria.

“Engineering profession is not a poor career; the issue of deficit in our infrastructural need in Nigeria should be a great opportunity to Engineers. Infrastructure deficit should be a great concern to our engineers.

"Though, countries outside sub –regional Africa has had a major paradigm shift in public procurement, countries within, including Nigeria are yet to avail themselves of the opportunities and advantages in Public Private Partnership for infrastructure development”, Senator Omisore stated.
